Today was our fourth visit here and we discovered the drawer. IYKYK. we spent most of our time enjoying the peaceful, quiet ambiance. Our sushi was so delicious and flavorful. Very fresh. We got the dragon roll, the Hawaiian, Philadelphia roll, peach sake and our all time favorite, the NO NAME. We spent $87.15 before tip. Itโs well worth the price. We enjoyed our server (she maybe have been the owner). She was very kind and friendly.
Overview
Walking into Yokohamagreenwood feels like stepping into a place that already knows you. Iโve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday, and every visit carries that same comfortable rhythm. The diner sits at 67 N Madison Ave, Greenwood, IN 46142, United States, right in the heart of town, and it has become one of those spots locals quietly recommend when friends ask where to eat.
What stands out immediately is the menu. Itโs not overloaded, and thatโs intentional. Research from the National Restaurant Association shows that menus with focused options tend to improve customer satisfaction and speed of service, and you can feel that principle at work here. Each dish tastes like itโs been tested, adjusted, and perfected rather than rushed out. I once chatted with a server during a slower afternoon, and she explained how the kitchen tweaks recipes seasonally based on ingredient availability and customer feedback from reviews. That kind of process isnโt flashy, but itโs how consistency is built.
On one visit, I ordered their signature rice bowl after reading multiple reviews praising its balance of flavors. They werenโt exaggerating. The textures worked together-nothing soggy, nothing overpowering-and it reminded me of how good diners succeed by paying attention to basics. According to a Cornell University food service study, repeat customers value consistency even more than novelty, and that clearly applies here. Every return visit tastes familiar in the best possible way.
The atmosphere leans casual and relaxed. Itโs the type of place where solo diners donโt feel awkward and families donโt feel rushed. Iโve seen business lunches happening next to friends catching up, which says a lot about how flexible the space is. The staff moves with confidence, and thereโs a noticeable system behind it. Orders come out efficiently, tables turn smoothly, and mistakes are handled quickly and honestly. Once, when a side dish came out wrong, it was corrected immediately with an apology and a fresh plate-no excuses, no attitude.
Location matters too. Being on Madison Avenue makes it easy to reach whether youโre coming from downtown Greenwood or nearby neighborhoods. Parking is straightforward, which might sound minor, but convenience plays a huge role in dining choices. A 2023 consumer dining report from Yelp noted that ease of access is one of the top five reasons customers return to local restaurants. Yokohamagreenwood checks that box without trying.
What really builds trust, though, is transparency. Ingredients are clearly described, portions are consistent, and pricing feels fair. While no restaurant is perfect, this one is honest about what it offers. There arenโt claims of being the best or most innovative, just a steady commitment to doing things right. That honesty shows up in online reviews, where regulars often mention reliability and friendly service rather than hype.
If thereโs a limitation, itโs that peak hours can get busy, especially on weekends. Iโve learned to arrive a bit earlier or later than the usual rush. Still, that crowd is also proof of its reputation. In an industry where many places struggle to maintain loyal customers, Yokohamagreenwood has built something sustainable by listening, adjusting, and staying grounded.
Dining here feels less like chasing trends and more like participating in a routine that works. The food, the service, and the location all support each other naturally, creating an experience thatโs easy to recommend and even easier to return to.

Reviews
Yokohama was wonderful. We were served by Emily who was so kind and helpful when helping us choose what to order. We even got to meet the owner Debbi who came out to make sure everything was well--she is a bundle of good energy. The restaurant itself is like a mini museum you can walk around and see so much character and artifacts. My favorite dishes were the tuna nigiri, firedragon sushi roll, and there was a chicken and beef dish that was delicious but I forgot the name. We loved it so much that we came back the next day with friends and ordered family style. 5 stars. Will be back again.
Lively late night atmosphere and generous quality fish in their sushi and sashimi creations in a small, intimate space. FOOD Adding an update for a new fave --get the CHIRASHI it's super delucious with generous portion of sashimi and sushi rice! I ordered the Shrek Forever roll and it was delicious. The roll is big and each piece took more than a single bite. The fish inside was in generous chunks, and overall it was a delicious creation with subdued, mild flavors. Chicken Katsu was a HUGE serving with a lot of rice, so I was able to enjoy it the next day for lunch. The grilled squid is my favorite appetizer to share. It's chewy (normal for squid) and pairs well with beer. SERVICE We were seated right away and the drinks and food came out promptly. Server checked on us and the owner even gave us a little sample of another dish to try! I do wish that we had been seated in a less high traffic area.
Atmosphere is amazing, as soon as you open the door. Service was amazing, and the food.. well just check out the picture
My sons and I just had a wonderful lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waitress was very kind to explain some items none of us were familiar with. This was a first time visit for all of us but it certainly won't be the last. We truely enjoyed our dining experience.
Been wanting to try this spot for awhile and finally got the chance this week! Went one weekday night about 45min before close. Pretty quiet and great service. Very attentive staff. Started with miso soup that was amazing - not too salty. Then tried a variety of sushi rolls. They were delicious. Probably one of the best sushi places weโve food locally. Definitely on the expensive side but the food is amazing. Will definitely go again!
Celebrated my birthday today with a trip to Yokohama Greenwood. We have been here several times and it is never disappointing. Today we had the sushi poppers as an appetizer. We then shared the Volcano roll and a poke bowl . The service was great and we always enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
